Are Democrats and Republicans the Same?

I've got a question here for you to ponder. First, the basis of the question:

You've probably seen the photos of protestors outside of Reagan's funeral. There were people there carrying signs that said, "REAGAN IN HELL!", and things of that nature. They weren't the only ones; there were people all across the country banding together, carrying signs, and protesting the respects paid to Ronald Reagan.

Now, with that context in mind, ask yourself: "Given what I feel that I know about the characters of Democrats and Republicans, hypothetically, if Bill Clinton were to die and similar funeral services were taking place, would Republicans all across the country be banding together and be carrying similar diminutive signs about President Clinton while loudly shouting protests?"

I'll give my answer: I don't think so. I think this question helps to define a significant difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats seem to carry around a sort of seething hate and anger within them which influences their interactions with others.

Now there also wackos out there that some people associate with the right wing. I'm talking about neo-Nazi skinhead racists, and those sort of people. But they aren't part of the right wing. These are not people who the bread and butter of the right wing accepts with open arms and says, "These are our people." Far from it. Instead, these people are associated with the right wing only because the left wing haters claim that they're right wing. These people are thrust upon the right wing by the left in order to defame the right; but the people on the right are saying, "Hey! We don't want them either!"

In contrast, these wackos on the left, these protestors out there carrying signs, Howard Dean and his hate group of Deaniacs calling Bush the worlds most dangerous terrorist and likening him to Adolf Hitler, and the nuts carrying the "REAGAN IN HELL!" signs, these people are embraced by the left.

Or have I missed an important subtlety somewhere?

More on the Democrats' response to the Reagan mourning.

I totally agree with you. It seems many left-wingers are full of hate. I just go to some message boards on Yahoo and it's full of hatred - although some is from the right-wing people, most of it is the liberals.

If an extreme left-winger, like Tom Daschle for instance (who's a jerk in my opinion) died or something, I wouldn't be spouting hate - hello, he's a human being! What happened to treating fellow human beings like human beings?

I found this on another website:

Evan Maloney

I doubt any radical right-wingers would be terribly enthused by my arguments because I am not radical, and I do not rely on heated rhetoric or a vicious tone to advance my argument. And when stupid speech or radical actions occur on the right, I have no problem denouncing it. If anything, radical right-wingers must be pretty disappointed with me...or at least bored by me.

But, on the left, the radicals now control the movement. The kooks have taken over your village. The left has let the radicals define the movement and control the rhetoric. The sensible mainstream is either smaller or quieter than it has been in the past, and whatever mainstream remains silently tolerates equations like Bush=Hitler.

I'm glad to not be the only person who has noticed this highly significant difference.

Doesn't it appear obvious that both Parties have wackos in the wings? All you need to remember about the morals and manners of the X-Right is fire-bombing anti-abortionists committing religious sacrilege, along with corporate contempt for the public, with lust for the commonweal- I think its fair to say that the middle ground is massively tolerant of these intolerants as there is a grain of truth in every pearl of protest.

"Doesn't it appear obvious that both Parties have wackos in the wings?"

Perhaps, but you seem to have missed my major point: The sensible mainstream of the right side of the aisle is the majority, and it's a majority which rejects outright and loudly the so-called right wingers which you mentioned.

"But on the left, the radicals now control the movement. The kooks have taken over [the] village. The left has let the radicals define the movement and control the rhetoric. The sensible mainstream is either smaller or quieter than it has been in the past, and whatever mainstream remains silently tolerates equations like Bush=Hitler."

Liberals are more full of hate? I think you may just not know enough liberals and only be hearing about extreme cases through the rightwing media. No one I know ever said they hope Reagan Burns in hell or that Bush is the same as Hitler. Yes we are generally angry at Bush for his corruption and contempt for the truth, the constitution and human life. Yes, we were angry at the revisionist history of Reagans support of Saddam and other killers, his sale of weapons to Iran and his embezzlement of the money in violation of the constitution, but no one I know wished him or his family ill. We hated the sin, not the sinner. As far as rightwing hate goes. How about this:

There is lots more

Both sides have a tendency of being "mean spirited", if you will. Also, both parties have their share of politicians whom I can't stand. I don't like Liberal "compassionate"Democrats and I don't particularly care for Conservative "God fearing" Republicans either. Both parties should be abolished and replaced by parties that are truly responsive to the needs of the people. The Republicans take care of big business, at the expense of everyday Americans, while the Liberal Democrats impose more taxation on AMerican workers so they will have more to spend on alot of social programs. At the very most, the Republicans throw everyday Americans a few crumbs. I must say that during the Clinton administration, I always owed the IRS money. Under Dubya's administration I have always gotten a refund. And you are hearing this from a working stiff, not one of the "evil wealthy people" the Democrats like to tax constantly. Aside from the modest refunds I have received since the second Bush administration began, how have I benefitted? Not in the slightest. Conversely, how did I benefit from 8 years of the Clinton administration? Not in the slightest.

I hate to break the news to all of you that believe the left is nothing more than a bunch of haters. Although we can hate, we only hate as much as every one else. There is no secret that politics brings out the nasty in EVERYONE. To watch our country go down the tanker at the hands of the hypocritical and so called conservative right is enough to make anyone hate. Don't you think? What I believe is that a majority of right wingers are not happy with their party. The stealing, the killings, the scandals, and all the lying the "Republican President" is doing has certainly put a damper on the "Moral" values of the elected right. The liberals are no better. We have just had enough of a government that has tried to lie, steal, and kill its way to worl domination. Enough is enough. Lets just go to a Partiless system where we vote on people only for what they believe in and not what party they belong to.

Anyway since you right wingers have had the presidency and the house and senate for so long, you didn't have to be haters and vocal. Lets just see how hateful you get when a Democrat is voted into the presidency and he has a majority in the senate and the house. I am sure hell with cometh.....

Now if Mitt is elected, I guarantee he might just be the anti-christ....

What's wrong with Mitt???

Posted by: Jeff at May 27, 2007 05:46 PM

nonsense. you guys are smoking crack. left and right are equally populated by some real class acts. the left are communists from hell, the right are fascists from hell. the left is prepared to redistribute wealth, and bankrupt this country doing so. the right is prepared to wage war on drugs, sex, rock&roll, terrorists, everyone except for corrupt friends in high places...and bankrupt the country doing so. mitt will try and buy this election. so will hillary. john mccain is the worst of both worlds. liberal with our money here, and liberal with our money abroad (war, energy tax)....the whole thing reeks across the spectrum from left to right.....anyway, the right better hope that Hillary wins the nomination, because I know REAL REPUBLICANS, as in most of my friends and family are going to sit out, and let the dems take it. The current neocon movement needs to be put down. But if Hillary wins, we'll do our duty to put her down. So there you have it. If Obama gets the nomination,he takes the election. If Hillary wins nomination, it'll be "anyone but hillary". (god I'm gonna hate voting for mccain if hillary get the nomination). you guys have a mental illness. seek help. that is all.

You are wrong. People still attack Clinton for what he got caught doing and he was impeached! I would say that was hate maybe because the guys were infuriated that another guy was dumb enough to get caught cheating. What guy doen;t cheat? Also male republicans hate women in power and control of anything. I also feel that saying Dems are immoral is a hate term not ALL dems are immoral, just like not all reps are woman haters. Also Republicans hate the planet and animals. So you are wrong wrong.

Seriously, don't both sides just want to rip each other's throats out? It's the way politics work and it doesn't change depending on your side... Also those are far left democrats to be protesting Reagan not just the norm... Far right republicans hated Obama being elected too

This is what makes me glad to be an independent - I don't have to claim any of these nutjobs.
