A Harvard undergrad returns home on break. The conversation at the welcome home dinner inevitably turns to her schooling.
"I've become an enlightened liberal," the English lit student declares proudly. The conversation then turns to her study habits, free time and the like.
Daughter: "Free time? What free time? I barely have time to eat. I'm working like a dog --- but I'm making dean's list!"
Father: "And how is your best friend Michelle doing?"
Daughter: "She works, but has different parties, I, uh mean, priorities. Her GPA is hitting rock bottom. She's pretty smart, but she was warned that if she doesn't clean up her act, then she'll be booted."
Father: "Now, you wouldn't want that. Why don't you go to the dean's office and offer to transfer some of your GPA to Michelle so you both can be equal?"
Daughter: "Why in the world would I do that!? I work hard. I push myself. I do what I must without any excuses. Michelle is capable. If she wanted to succeed like me, she would."
Father: "Are you sure that your English lit courses don't include a class in poli-sci? You've managed to succinctly articulate the differences between conservatives and liberals."

Actually, that is the difference between socialism and capitalism. Helping those less fortunate does not equate to socialism.
Posted by: John Coleman at July 10, 2004 04:46 PMI suppose the moral to this "story" is that everyone who doesn't succeed does so because they're lazy and party too much.
Lame.
Go read Ayn Rand and get off my Internet.
Posted by: Doogie Howser, MD at August 28, 2005 07:55 PMI still don't hear you clamoring to give away some of your credentials so that someone else can be equal with you Mr. MD. Whose credentials are they? Yours. Your hard earned credentials.
Now go and vote for higher taxes or something and make yourself feel better for actually being able to get on the internet. There are people who don't have it you know. You should invite some of them to your house and let them use yours.

Higher taxes
cut and run
flipp flopper
Are you thinking for yourself yet?
Posted by: Voter at October 2, 2006 09:44 PMSo then farmers who are usually ultra conservative are basicly welfare sucking leeches because they accept welfare (crop subsidies)? Are all the citizens of Texas welfare queens too because they accept more in federal aid then they pay in federal taxes?
Funny how conservatives cling to false propaganda to serve their causes , even when logic and fact dictate otherwise.
P.S. too bad all the GOP badasses here in the USA aren't over fighting in Iraq, surely they could win the war easily. But i guess once again, their content to sit on their fat asses then actually do any fighting. Maybe then they might care about getting our G.I.'s killed so friviously.
Posted by: CarRacer at October 15, 2006 03:17 PM@Car racer: If those farmers are VOTING to receive subsidies, absolutely they're immoral leeches. If they actually know right from wrong and, therefore, vote against those subsidies, but take them because the tax code allows them, they're doing precisely as they should. No one should be forced to accept the negatives of a tax code (negatives which they may not agree with) without receiving the benefits (which they may not agree with).
Posted by: Jeff at October 15, 2006 03:22 PMIf liberals are so "open minded" then why can't you open your minds to a conservatives view once in awile instead of claming we can't think for outselves? Hypocrites.
Posted by: Monte at February 16, 2007 01:49 PMWinston Churchill, famous for switching from the Liberal Party to the Conservative Party, once observed:
"Anyone who isn't a Liberal before the age of 30 has no heart .... and anyone who is still a Liberal after the age of 30 has no brain".
Also reminds me of a little saying.
"I give you a fish, you eat for a day."
"I teach you to fish, you eat for life."
Ah, the ignorance of liberals in these things.
Not to mention they call us close minded when we listen to them (half the time it's forced), while when we try to say something, they call us mindless sheep.

Most of the people I have met in my time in the military are conservative. It is funny how that works, we give up our freedom to fight for it. Every time I hear the line "If the war is so right for the conservatives, why are't they over fighting for it?", I want to puke. We are over here, we are fighting for it and we are doing a good job of it too!
Conservatives are close minded. Capitalism is unjust and evil. Capitalism allows the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. Capitalism is all about making money, buying and selling to make a profit.Although one does decide their destiny by going to school or becoming a drugie, people should consider other factors such as the environment in which one is raised; it influences the way one thinks. People have no controll over where they come from. Not everyone has the privilege of having good parents, growing up in a safe environment, or affording a higher education. If only CLOSED MINDED CONSERVATIVES realized that all these factors influence one's decisions, maybe this country could improve. Poor people do need help!

how can you say capitalism is unjust and evil, the only other option is socialism which is unjust and evil, it is communism with a better name, all it does it take from the citizens and give it to others, wel alot of liberals say well its just basic human rights, what i would like to know is under what definition of human rights does a man have the right to take what another man has produced, i understand that th poor people do need help and when i can i try to help them but what i produce myself is mine and no one, not even the U.S. government has the right to take it, to give to them, and im a far far far right conservative and im not really closeminded i just have veiws that cannot be compromised such and homosexuality is always wrong no matter what, and if you think that is being closeminded then you must have no sense of moral standards
Semi-socialist government and atheist beliefs have killed the church where conservatives used to give. This money went to programs (and volunteers ran them. no money to those government junkies). It was intended to be 20% of your income too which without paying the workers is probably more than what government programs see with our Awesome taxes. Now I have no illusions that this wasn't perfect (ie churches already keep a lot of money), but at least they were doing something with money in the past not just building bigger churches. Religion has always been better at almost everything the governemnt tries to do. The Nation of Islam even had better drug rehab programs (the Government semi-modeled theirs after it-stated the biograpohy of Malcolm X)
Whatever Liberals will never get it.
